曾任中國話劇院主要演員，在多部舞台劇中扮演女主角。
1977年後調回中央戲劇學院，任表演系教師。在數十年的教學中，培養出國內外知名的演員，如：鞏俐、陶紅、叢珊、嶽紅、陳小藝、郭濤、何正軍等。
任教期間，為學生進行“從語言入手到形象創造”的表演教學，並排演出數十部古今中外名劇，作為學生教學劇目的實踐。
任教期間受邀中國傳媒大學、北京師範大學藝術系、吉林藝術學院、山東藝術學院，作為客座教授兼課教學。
90年代初受邀與馮明義教授一起赴新加坡，為“新加坡華語戲劇聯合會”、“南方藝術研究會”、“新加坡國際電影學院”、“新加坡南洋藝術學院”等機構，訓練演員的表演和語言。並導演了多部舞台劇名著。
在新加坡期間，受新加坡教育部的邀請，為全國的中小學華文教師進行“戲劇要素與華語教學法”系統培訓。同時也為教師聯合會開設表演基礎課。
參與編著的“演員藝術語言基本技巧”一書，被列為高等藝術教育“九五”部級重點教材，收入“中國藝術教育大系”的戲劇卷，並被文化部和教育部授予特別獎。

Prof. Hou once was one of the main actresses in Chinese Theater Group, she acted main roles in many famous plays. Since 1977, she began ti teach at the Academy. She taught hundreds students acting and stage speech at the Academy, many of them became famous in china as well as outside China, Gongli, Taohong, Congshan, yuehong, chenxiaoyi, guotao, and Hezhengjun are a few examples.
While teaching at the Academy in Beijing, she taught students how to create various roles from language and directed many famous plays for her students. She was also invited to teach at other universities, such as China Communication University, Beijing Teacher Training University, Jilin Institute of Fine Arts, Shandong Institute of Fine Arts.
Since early 1990s together with Prof. Feng, she was invited to teach at Singapore Practice Performing Arts School, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore Mandarin Theater Association, National University of Singapore, Singapore Chinese TV Station, Singapore International Movie I |
